Gel Nail Extensions

Gel nail extensions are created by glueing a clear artificial tip onto the edge of the natural nail to give it added length. The tip doesn't cover the whole of the natural nail, just a small section close to the edge. The tip is cut down to a desired length and shaped. You can choose whether to have a natural, French, or coloured tip. This is done by painting the chosen coloured gel over the clear tip. Painting the tip in gel this way ensures that there is no 'fake plastic' look that can sometimes occur when using some French or coloured tips. Layers of clear gel are then painted over the natural nail and false tip to add strength, and cured under a UV lamp until solid.

A FOREVER FRENCH is when pink gel is used over the nail bed, and white gel is used to cover the tip. As long as you have the gel infilled and rebalanced regularly, it need never grow out. You can have a french manicure look.....forever. The forever french look can also be achieved using the gel with the new Dashing Diva French Wrap.

Depending on the the client, a buff off, or soak off gel can be used.

• Can be filed off, or soaked off without damaging the natural nail
• Adds strength to weak nails
• Adds length to short natural nails
• They can encourage clients to stop biting their natural nails
• They can be worn long-term or short-term to suit individual clients
• Prevents the natural nail from splitting or breaking
• If a client has trouble growing their natural nails, nail extensions can be used while the natural nails grow. When the natural nails gets to the desired length, gel polish can be worn instead to ensure the nails stay long and strong

To get the most out of your nail enhancements, and to keep them looking their best, it is your responsibility to look after them accordingly

Aftercare and Advice:

• Have infills every 2-3 weeks, or have extensions soaked off and reapplied
• Do not use the nails as 'tools' or treat them roughly as you could cause them to break
• Use a cuticle cream or oil daily to help nourish the natural nail as it grows. If you do this the natural nail will be much healthier should you decided to have the gel removed
• Gently clean under the free edge of the natural nail
• Use a top coat over the gel that contains a UV block, as sunlight and sunbeds could cause the gel to yellow. If using a sunbed, apply an appropriate topcoat before your appointment, remove the topcoat using an acetone-free nail polish remover after the sunbed, then apply a new coat of topcoat
• Use appropriate gloves whilst washing up, gardening, doing housework, using hair dyes or self tan
• Do not bite or pick at the gel or tips, or attempt to pull them off
• If lifting occurs book an appointment to have maintenance carried out, as dirt can become trapped under the gel

Contra-indications to Nail Enhancements:
What is a contra-indication?

• Severely bitten nails - they don't allow sufficient nail plate for the adhesion of a nail tip.
• Thin, peeling nails.
• Bacterial or fungal infections.
• Inflammed skin around the nail.
• Cuts and abrasions in a specific area.
• Bruised nails.
• Ingrowing nail.
• Warts.
• An extremely curved nail.
• Excessively overgrown cuticles. In this case a manicure must be performed, and the extensions should be appied at a later date, as the nails would contain too much moisture for sufficient adhesion.
• Diabetes - infection could occur if the skin was accidentally broken.
