Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage got its name after body massage grew in popularity and spread through Europe due to the influence of a Swedish man, Per Henrik Ling (1776-1839), who developed a system of movements based on the massage techniques of the day.

Massage has a number of positive therapeutic effects upon a person, including physical, physiological and psychological benefits.

Benefits:

  • Increases blood circulation.
  • Helps to exfoliate dead skin cells.
  • Maintains the collagen fibres which give skin it's elasticity.
  • Moisturises the skin.
  • Nutrients circulate more effectively.
  • Improves body posture.
  • Helps in the removal of toxins.
  • Reduces muscle tension.
  • Relaxes the mind.
  • Can reduce pain.
  • Improves the skin colour and tone.
  • Improves joint mobility.

Aftercare and Advice:

  • Avoid eating heavy meals as energy that should be used to remove toxins will be instead taken up by digestion.
  • Avoid heavy exercise. Light exercise may be beneficial.
  • Drink plently of water to help flush out toxins.
  • Avoid fizzy drinks, alcohol and drinks containing caffeine. Herbal tea is fine.
