Waxing is an effective form of hair removal which removes hairs from the roots. The hair will need to be long enough for the wax to grip it, and it is recommended that approx 2 weeks worth of hair growth, or hair of at least one quater of an inch in length should be present.
How is waxing carried out?
The skin and hair will first be prepared for the treatment with the application of pre-wax lotion, which will remove any body oils, make up or perspiration which may prevent the wax from gripping the hairs properly. For most areas a hand held roller wax system will be used. This involves using a brand new disposable roller head for each treatment and attaching it to a wax-filled cartridge which will be heated. The wax will be smoothly applied to the treatment area via the roller head. This method is quick and mess-free. For areas that require more precision such as the eyebrows, a wax pot and spatula method will be used by dipping a wooden spatula into a pot of heated wax and spreading the wax from the spatula over the hair. Whichever method is used a paper or fabric strip will then be pressed down onto the wax. With the skin held taut, the strip will be quickly and firmly pulled from the skin, removing the wax and hair along with it. A soothing and cooling after-wax lotion will then be applied to the skin.
